What difference does Machine Vision technology make?

    • Speed, efficiency and reliability through automation. The processes of scanning, identifying and inspecting products happen without human supervision. This means constant, repeatable effectiveness. MVS systems need no interruptions, their attention never falters. They are also free from emotional reactions to events or incidents. They implement security procedures and raise alarms without hesitation. MVS also means that the employee’s illness does not affect the tightness of control processes.
    • Lower risk of product damage during inspection. MVS conducts identification and surveillance indirectly, using an integrated system of sensors and devices. No risk of inadvertently damaging or contaminating sensitive products by an employee during a routine inspection.
    • Objective 24/7 control. Programmed systems make no exceptions. They always judge based on the same parameters. Their assessment is not affected by factors such as distraction, fatigue or stress.
    • Reduction of defective batches and waste. MVS systems not only quickly recognize errors in the production process, but also quickly implement procedures to stop the increase in losses.
    • Staff security thanks to exclusion from harmful environments. Machine Vision technology relieves employees of direct process supervision. They avoid unnecessary exposure to hazardous substances, machinery or other nuisance factors, such as excessive noise levels or temperature in the freezer.
    • Saving space and implementation time by eliminating operator stations. The operation of the system is limited to hardware and software. Once set up, configured and running, they will start working immediately and at full capacity.
    • Savings in maintenance costs. Machine Vision works without human intervention. Regular costs in the form of salaries, insurance premiums, work clothes, equipment and training in the use of new solutions disappear.
    • Easy integration of Machine Vision into your existing solutions. The MVS system will become a modern control layer, cooperating with your devices and software. Data is exchanged via Ethernet, Wi-Fi, USB, Bluetooth, I/O.

    Examples of using Machine Vision

E-commerce warehouses need exceptional picking efficiency because their work consists of many small orders. This increases the number of customers and thus the risk of returns. Reducing this risk is key to ensuring efficiency and reducing operating costs.

MVS systems in e-commerce ensure control of:

    • product segregation,
    • defective goods – with the classification of errors, e.g. quality of assembly, painting, type of damage,
    • correct labeling of orders,
    • order path – which can be displayed to the customer.

Food industry appreciates intelligent vision systems for helping to keep products safe. Processes that happen automatically are, for example:

    • registering and verifying the composition of products,
    • checking the conformity of markings,
    • recognition of mechanically or factory-damaged packaging,
    • detection of contaminated and expired food.

Thanks to MVS, sellers are aware of the status of their inventory. They can more easily optimize sales, avoid food waste due to oversights or accepting the delivery of incorrect products.

Automotive industry uses AI-based vision systems to ensure product compliance at all stages of the production process. The technology automatically recognizes:

    • degree of assembly correctness,
    • painting quality,
    • tightness of packaging and protections,
    • correctness of marking.

In this way, problems and risks of individual production phases can be diagnosed in time, as well as preventing the sending of defective goods – avoiding complaints and contractual penalties.

Machine Vision Systems - how does it work?

2D systems are sufficient to identify and inspect objects with distinctive colors, textures or individual codes. They assign values to images based on the characteristics of the pixel arrays. They detect e.g. wrong color, inaccurate painting, surface damage such as cracks or scratches.

3D systems extend the possibilities of the 2D version. They work well where products are similar in terms of color and require the assessment of more parameters: dimensions, volume, arrangement in the package and shape. They detect not only scratches, but also dents or incorrect assembly in 3D.

MVS scanners fixed above conveyors instantly capture data on every product placed in view. Among other things, they recognize:

    • condition of the packaging,
    • barcode quality,
    • marking compatibility.

OCR and OCV functionalities – they are used to recognize and verify marks placed on products. They check that on each product:

    • the batch number, production and expiration dates are correct,
    • the label is human readable.

At the same time, they collect statistical data that allows you to compare batches in terms of correctness and link any errors with the time of production processes.

Liquid lenses are responsible for instant adaptation of the focus to the situation on the production line – different dimensions, variable distance of objects, various location of labels.

Lamp system illuminates the field of observation, providing access to all features of the product or event.

Deep Learning algorithms allow the AI to self-improve over time. Artificial intelligence independently collects reference material, which it uses to more efficiently identify minor defects, such as scratches, dents or more difficult to detect damage to labels. The more material, the faster and more accurate the inspection.

Industrial robots with a processor communicate within the MVS system, sending data and receiving instructions created on the basis of artificial intelligence algorithms.

HMI (human-machine interface) allows employees to supervise automated processes without having to directly perform repetitive tasks: production tracking, identification, quality control, measurement and counting.

MVS integration with your systems allows you to control production and warehouse processes in real time. The new generation of industrial cameras conduct continuous, meticulous observation. Based on algorithms, artificial intelligence reacts to events and sends data to employees, to your desktop and to systems. This allows you to:

    • reliable control without omissions,
    • quick responses at the managerial level,
    • increase in the safety of employees who receive notifications if a dangerous situation has arisen in any area,
    • quick access to automatic reports created on the basis of complete, objective information,
    • more efficient analysis of the efficiency of production processes,
    • reduction of the risk of complaints due to incorrectly applied codes or defective products.

    Which MVS system to choose?

For simple inspections, counting and code reading:

Vision sensors. Individual devices with a camera and a processor that are connected to a computer with dedicated software.

For a comprehensive analysis that takes into account the position of the elements:

Smart cameras. Devices that combine a camera with internal software. Can also be controlled and configured via an external computer.

For complex assessment of product parameters:

VPC units. A flexible system in which a camera can be selected separately for the computer – based on the expectations and characteristics of the controlled process or type of products.

    ibcsSnapEvidence

ibcsSnapEvidence provides, above all, tracking and full registration of significant production operations. The “evidence” of such actions is visible in the photos, which, in addition, are taken from different distances, from different angles.

All such photographs are meticulously archived – so that they can be easily found. It is helpful here to assign the code of a given production operation to individual photos, as well as the number of the camera and station. In addition, the system allows you to control the triggering of taking photos. This is available from the customer’s production system.

The entire system, apart from the cameras themselves, also includes cabling elements, software for operating the cameras (along with full license documentation), an interface to the client’s production system, as well as hardware on which all operations can be performed and tracked (it can be, for example, tablet).

Camera system for photographic recording of processes – what possibilities does it give?

    • in case of a complaint – gives the opportunity to reliably document the condition of the product/shipment,
    • enables precise and reliable registration of important production operations that have a real impact on product quality,
    • builds an archive of photos related to the photographed object.

    Where will it work?

This system can be used both in the study and in the office. It will work in various types of interiors – in typical offices, in open-space rooms, at the reception desk, in offices, as well as in conference, seminar and auditorium rooms and in all other representative places in the company. What is more, it can be used not only in private spaces, but also in public spaces.

And that’s not all! Like any technological solution, it can be enriched with additional functionalities – so as to maximally adjust the vision camera system for a specific client (of course, after making sure that it can be implemented in a given company and after additional tests).
