faster achievement of the employee's maximum productivity

Companies that changed traditional methods to a voice-picking system noticed that:

  • the speed of order processing has increased
  • the number of mistakes has decreased
  • the time of training and introducing a new employee has significantly decreased
  • the work of the operators has become safer and the ergonomics of their work has increased
  • storekeepers are more satisfied with this work tool
  • it has become possible to complete more orders with the same resources,
  • it is easier and faster to hire and train additional seasonal workers in peak periods (the so-called peaks of seasons)

Check how you can achieve such results in your company.

Are you relying on the "good old" work methods? Consider their limitations

    • Basing picking on paper documents means high administration costs. Such a solution distracts employees from the task, takes their hands and eyesight, and engages additional employees.
    • Equipping employees with mobile computers usually has to be preceded by a minimum of several days of training. Here, too, laborious manual handling and distraction from completing orders are required.
    • Pick-to-light is not suitable for all types of picking, and moreover still overburden the worker with manual handling and forces them to look away.

Do not risk financial losses on ineffective work. Your pick by voice system can voice guide the operator through the next stages of the task. The training takes only a few hours, the employee quickly achieves maximum efficiency, which is especially important in the case of high turnover and the employment of seasonal workers.

How operators work when their hands are free

They are equipped with a headset with a microphone and a terminal located in a holster on the waist belt; a terminal communicating on the one hand via Wi-Fi with WMS system and, on the other hand, via Bluetooth with a headset.

    • They receive clear instructions via the handset: data on the location, quantity of goods and possibly other order parameters. The command can always be repeated. The operator can also make the system say commands faster or slower.
    • Voice confirmation of the individual stages of the task task by saying numbers or appropriate commands.
    • Go through the entire picking process in simple steps:
      • the first command of the system is to go to a specific location,
      • for confirmation of arrival by the operator will call up tips about the product,
      • the system specifies the number of cartons and / or unit packages to be collected,
      • the operator picks up the goods and confirms the completion after completion,
      • the system gives the next location to which the warehouseman is to go – the sequence is repeated for the next product,

for some products for which it is impossible to eliminate scanning (because it is necessary, for example, to provide a serial number or a weight code), the operator reads the bar code with the terminal, taking it out of the holster for this time. In the case of frequent need for scanning, finger scanners can be used additionally.

    • Maintain eye contact with the product at all times and use both hands to reduce the likelihood of damage and accident, and increase pace and efficiency.
    • When there is a need to display additional information about the product, eg photos, the voice application can optionally be integrated with the image database and display photos of selected products on the terminal screen.
    • Foreigners can join the process without any problems thanks to the system operating in more than 40 languages. In the standard picking process, operators do not reach into the holster for the terminal, which increases the terminal operation time between charges, and thus extends the period of battery replacement, and reduces the risk of damage to the devices. the device is not subject to the possibility of falls.
    • The solution works very well in freezers due to the lack of the need to use the keyboard (which is a problem with ordinary terminals due to cold hands and working in gloves) and looking at the screen (which when working in a cold store is often fogged up due to moisture condensation) ).
    • The operators’ current results are available for review during the execution of tasks and after completion of picking.
    • Employees using voice sets can also carry out other processes; for example:
      • stocking up (replenishing picking locations),
      • inventories,
      • parties, especially when two free hands are also needed for this process,
      • inspections and reviews.

Do you want your warehouse to work in such an efficient way?

What does voice picking system consist of?

The foundation: Your WMS that contains all the logic of the warehouse operation.

    • Wi-Fi radio network for communication.
    • Middleware – voice application for managing orders.
    • Retrieves tasks from the WMS.
    • Converts them into sound files – voice commands sent to the headset.
    • Converts voice commands spoken by warehouse workers into text data sent back to the system.
    • Supervises the execution of subsequent completion orders.
    • Reports to the WMS system.
    • Optimizes the collection path – if there is no such function in the warehouse management system. Including will suggest printing labels, preparing containers and documentation.

The applications we implement as middleware are distinguished by the flexibility of integration with various warehouse management systems:

    • ibcsVoice – Our original product. We took into account various interface options to minimize the cost of integrating with WMS. As a manufacturer, we can introduce additional modifications, functionalities and configure unusual course of the picking processes.
    • VoiceLink by Honeywell.
    • Voice Direct for SAP by Honeywell; a dedicated manufacturer’s solution that allows you to convert the data displayed on the screen in the picking process in SAP and convert them into two-way voice messages (commands from the system and operator’s commands); in this variant the process related to implementation is simplified.

Set for the employee: terminal (Honeywell A700x series voice (link) or Android terminal – industrial smartphone or pistol type) and a headset with a microphone. The elements of the set communicate with each other via Bluetooth (optional – cable), and with  WMS system via Wi-Fi.

    • Terminals – they contain software enabling the operation of the voice system (voice recognition, work with the application for the implementation of picking processes, management of communication between the terminal and the headset), and the proper application application will be part of the middleware system.
    • Headsets; can also be mounted on helmets. They are used for two-way communication with the system. The appropriate design of the microphone suppress the ambient noise, and the structure itself is designed in such a way that it allows for comfortable and ergonomic work for many hours.
    • Administration console (installed locally or in the cloud), which is used to:
    • checking the condition of devices, including batteries,
    • user management,
    • monitoring the work of operators,
    • control of license terms.

    Do you have unusual problems?

We can react to them quickly thanks to the rich database of case studies and ready-made foreign solutions. Developed in the community of IBCS Group integrators (Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Bulgaria).

    They trusted us

“Many bidders applied for the implementation. However, the scope of the solution proposed by IBCS Poland, as well as additional elements related to network monitoring and management as part of these functionalities, determined the choice of this solution – explains Zbigniew Koplin from the District Dairy Cooperative in Piątnica.”

“It is worth emphasizing that the efficiency of the warehouse increased above the assumed value. This contributed to real financial savings. We are fully satisfied with the implementation and its effects as well as cooperation with IBCS Poland.”

“As intended, work ergonomics have improved, the number of errors has decreased, and warehouse processes have been optimised. The pick-by-voice technology has also contributed to speeding up the collection and dispensing stages, as well as increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of picking.”

“The system is centralized and easy to manage from one place. It generates not only savings of funds, but also time savings – previously, manual printing was performed by employees and operators of all workstations. (…) The universal architecture significantly reduced downtime, facilitated service work and additionally largely eliminated human errors.”
